What is Most Important to be include on your schedule?
What is the first thing you will put in if your schedule is completely empty? Here are what I think most of you would do.
You have been so busy doing so many things. Now you just want to do nothing.
You will schedule in all the things you have always wanted to do but never had the time to. For example, finish reading a book, finish up the craft you have started, go meet up with friends, or even spend some time in the side hustle you started.
You probably will block off the time to go on holidays with your family.
There might be more that I did not mention.
And these are all great!
However, today, I am going to bring awareness to the most important thing we should schedule in our calendar. Whether or not your calendar is packed or empty.
It is very important that we schedule in the time for ourselves.
What kind of time for ourselves? What do we do during this time? It is a time to do something for yourselves. Something that will help you stay grounded, discover yourself more, uplift yourself.
I am going to specifically say that it is a time that you indulge in self-care and self-love for yourself - spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally. And the best time to do this is often the first thing in the morning.
We live in a fast paced world. Often, the moment we open our eyes, we never stop working until it is time to sleep - and often, we go past the time to sleep too. Before you know it, days, weeks or even months have passed, but you don’t feel like you have lived and you don’t know where all the time has gone.
Trust me, and I promise you, that if you challenge yourself to build a morning routine that’s for you first thing in the morning, even if that means waking up earlier than you’re used to, it will make a world of difference, your life will change.
I used to wake up at 6.30am and start my day together with my children. Now, I have adjusted my schedule and I will wake up at 5.30am.
I will usually have 10 minutes of workout in the morning. I am now practicing Blogilates Workout Calendar. Everyday there will be a focus on different body parts. I don’t usually finish off all the videos, but I adopt the phrase “non zero day”, no matter how tired I am, I will do it, just a little is better than none. Working out jump starts the metabolism for the rest of the day. I feel motivated, happier and more energetic to conquer the rest of the day and all the tasks that come with it.
After that, I will listen to the devotions by Morning with the Masters. Followed by journaling my thoughts and praying. I love Tori and Chad’s Morning with the Masters Devotion. It is a short podcast, but they share their vulnerability after the bible verse reading and devotion. It helps me to connect what I have read to life. Then I’d take whatever that I get through the Holy Spirit and pray about it. And one very important thing that I always pray for is to have love. So whatever I do that day, I will always try my best to ask myself if it is from a heart of love. Yes, some days I’ll fail, I am a human too. But I always believe that we grow more and more in love and with love for people the more we practice.
At 6am, I will have a quick bath and brush my teeth. Then I will use the remaining time to either read a book or to work on a business-related task. Why would I do a business related task in the morning? It is because I know I would like to contribute through my business, and sometimes I just don’t have the energy to do it after I put my children to bed. Doing it first thing in the morning sets my day and gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Before I incorporated these in my life, I knew the importance but I have never done it. I truly see the significance of it after I challenged myself. I was able to discover more joy and love in the day. My life is truly transformed. It doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t happen drastically. But it fuel the love, the joy, the faith and energy, it nudges me towards the right path, it reminds me of my heart’s desire, it prompt me to have courage, and challenge me to think differently, it pushes me to question the lies, and little by little my life changed and is continuing to change, myself and others.
Now one of the biggest challenges to continue with this is - the consistency. Did I wake up every morning at 5.30am? The answer is no. I did wake up at 5.30am for a stretch of 2 weeks. Then, there will be times when I had rough nights, and I didn’t manage to wake up at 5.30am. But, you know what? It is always in my mind, not in a guilty way but knowing that I have that time for myself, as long as I am ready and go for it again, it is there for me to use it, to dive deeper into God’s word and to connect to my body and soul.
I’d say, just go and try. And do it as much as you can and thank me later for emphasizing how important this is.
